UMMC Telehealth offers 24/7, on-demand emergency medicine support to hospitals throughout Mississippi. Using sophisticated, real-time conferencing and monitoring, UMMC Telehealth connects providers at rural hospitals with board-certified emergency medicine specialists at UMMC. Together the teams determine a care plan for emergent patients, on the spot. Telehealth is personal health care delivered through technology. Using interactive, online video tools, UMMC care teams can monitor patients and support caregivers in other locations. All in real time.

TELEHEALTH IN ACTION: IMMEDIATE AND STABILIZING MEDICAL CARE

After a hunting accident, T.J. Brewer of Richton needed immediate help, but the UMMC Level 1 Trauma Center was two hours away. Instead, T.J. was transported to a rural health care facility nearby. There, T.J.’s care team connected to the UMMC Emergency Medicine team in Jackson through a live two-way video link. Together, they gave T.J. the treatment that saved his life.

Getting Started with UMMC Telehealth

Our simple, practical process has three steps:

  1. Assess your emergency room needs based on location, physician staffing, patient volumes, acuity, and coverage.
  2. Equip your emergency rooms with cameras, flat panel monitors, and/or telemedicine carts for immediate access to UMMC emergency medicine specialists.
  3. Train your emergency team on using UMMC Telehealth and on APP-EM physician protocols.

UMMC Telehealth Emergency Medicine extends the skills and resources of the state’s only academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma Center to clinics and hospitals throughout the state.
